A2 to be servicable for Euro 2012?

Contractors of five sections of the A2 motorway between Strykow and Konotopa promise that the route will be open to traffic during the Euro 2012 football tournament, Poland's transport minister Slawomir Nowak announced.
The minister announced that the five fragments of the route are at different stages of progress, although the contractors responsible for them believe that they will manage to complete the road on time. The Strykow-Konotopa stretch is of key importance, since it will ensure motorists motorway access from the German border right up to Warsaw. The A2 motorway is part of the international E30 road running from Cork in Ireland up to Omsk in Russia. In Poland it will begin at the border crossing at Swiecko, pass via Poznan, Lodz, Warsaw and Siedlce and cross border at Kukuryki. It will be approximately 660 km in length. At present, 252 km of this road already exists and is in service. This section lies between Nowy Tomysl in Wielkopolska region and Strykow in Lodzkie region.
On the other hand, the minister stated that work on parts of the A1 and A4 motorways is unlikely to be completed on time. These are the Torun-Strykow section of the A1 and the Krakow-Rzeszow stretch of the A4.
