Land secured for Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway
2012-01-30
The authorities in Gdansk have decided to make available 25 ha of land for the construction of the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway. The city administration and the regional government of Pomorskie voivodship have already signed an agreement on this matter.
According to the project specifications, the sale of 83 plots will take place with a 99% discount, thanks to which the regional authorities will pay approximately PLN 800,000-900,000 (€187,903-211,402) for the real estate and save roughly PLN 100m (€23.5m). The plan is to build a railway 20 km in length that will connect Gdansk with the airport and the Kaszuby region. The investment will entail building eight new railway stations, six of which will at the same time function as integrated transport hubs. The undertaking is slated to get under way in the autumn of 2012 and the work will take until 2015 to complete. The project will require estimated expenditure of more than PLN 700m (€164.5m) net.
