Planned Krakow incinerator set to cost more than PLN 700m?

A consortium headed by the firm
PBG submitted the cheapest bid in a tender to build a thermal waste processing plant in Krakow. It is willing to carry out the undertaking at a cost of PLN 700.8m (€167.4m) gross.
The second lowest offer was made by
Mostostal Warszawa (PLN 729.9m or €174.4m gross) and the third came from a consortium of the firms
Budimex,
Keppel Seghers and
Cespa (PLN 743.5m or €177.6m gross). On the other hand, another consortium formed by
Polimex-Mostostal,
Instal Krakow and
FISIA Babcock did not submit a final bid. The cost estimate prepared by the investor provided for expenditure in the region of PLN 704.4m (€168.3m) gross.
Krakowski Holding Komunalny intends to announce the winning bid in the coming month.
According to the project timetable, the Krakow incinerator will be built by 2014, and the project will be financed with EU funds. The plant will process approximately 220,000 tonnes of waste a year and the incineration process will also generate electricity and heat.
