Polnord to develop Gdansk's Granary Island
2010-01-12
The property developer
Polnord is to develop Granary Island (Wyspa Spichrzow). The company has just signed a preliminary contract with the city's local government.
Polnord and the city will together set up a company, in which the former will have a 51% share. As we informed our readers earlier, the company will build an Amber Museum on a 2.6 ha plot on the island's northern promontory and the museum will be owned by the city of Gdansk. The project will also include luxury flats, offices and a hotel, as well as a car park with room for 730 vehicles. A design-urban planning competition will be held at the beginning of 2010 and all ideas for developing the island will to be approved by the conservation officer for historic buildings and monuments. The investment is to be ready by the end of 2014 and will cost an estimated PLN 450m (€109.8m).
