Balice airport lining up further investments
2010-01-25
Krakow-Balice International Airport intends to carry out a number of investments in the coming years, worth the combined sum of PLN 800m (€195.6m).
By 2013 the airport wants, among other things, to expand and revamp its passenger terminal, which as a result will double its passenger capacity – the airport will be able to handle up to 8 million passengers a year. In turn, a hotel is to be erected at the airport by as early as 2011 and Balice's authorities are likewise planning to modernise the exit ways, taxiways, runways and apron. The planned undertakings will be partly financed with cash from European funds, while the remaining money will be supplied from the budget of the company managing the airport. Because of this fact the company needs a capital injection – if the airport's owners refuse to give their blessing to such a move it will seek an investor which, in exchange for its financial support, will obtain a 20-30% stake in the airport.
