Autostrada Poludnie withdraws from A1 Strykow-Pyrzowice investment

A consortium including Autostrada Poludnie will not now build a 180-kilometre fragment of the A1 motorway between Strykow and Pyrzowice. This is because the company failed to obtain the financing it needs to build the road.
According to the earlier guidelines set for the project, the deadline for completing the construction design was 22 January 2010, while the detailed design was to have been ready by June 2010. Autostrada Poludnie submitted the construction design within the allotted time, but did not manage to obtain funding for the investment. In connection with this fact GDDKiA, after checking the project, will initiate procedures aimed at choosing a new firm to build the motorway. Most probably this section of the A4 will be divided into three parts and a tender for the route, which will be built according to the traditional system, will take up to eight months.
Part of the cash needed for the project will be put up the European Investment Bank, which has announced plans to provide a loan of €1.1bn. The total cost of the construction work will come to around PLN 7.5bn (€1.8bn) and the motorway is to be ready for service prior to Euro 2012.
