Recovery in construction branch in Q2 2010?
2010-02-08
The outlook in the construction branch may begin to brighten as early as the second quarter of this year, although this will greatly depend on the weather, PAP reported, based on data from the Institute for Economic Development of the Warsaw School of Economics.
The construction firms which took part in the survey conducted by the institute predict that the situation will improve significantly at all functional levels: production and employment levels, order portfolios, the financial condition of companies, and outlays spent on investments. Equally optimistic are their predictions regarding the future outlook both in construction in particular and in the country as a whole. In the opinion of analysts, these forecasts may, however, prove false if the weather remains problematic and temperatures do not rise significantly – 67% of the respondents believe that the harsh winter is significantly hampering their operations.
In the opinion of the surveyed construction firms, the economic climate in the branch in the first quarter of 2010 is 6 points better than was the case in Q4 2009, when assessments of the situation varied greatly depending on the size of an enterprise – the biggest firms remain the most upbeat in this respect.
