Facelift for Kuznica border crossing
2010-03-02
The railway border crossing at the Polish-Belarusian frontier at Kuznica is to be modernised to meet the requirements of the Schengen Agreement. The undertaking will cost an estimated €5.9m, 85% of the cost of which will be covered by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, PAP reported.
The revamp will involve erecting a new building for border guard personnel, developing a monitoring system for places under special surveillance and moving the detector gate for radioactive materials. Earlier, new platforms were built for the needs of domestic passanger traffic, border traffic and international long-distance vehicles. In addition, an underground crossing will also be built so as to divide domestic from international passenger traffic. The undertaking will take until February 2011 to complete.
