€3.5bn earmarked for new power units in Opole

Two new power units are to be built at the Opole Power Station. The investment that will require total estimated outlays of €3.5bn, according to the senior management of
PGE Elektrownia Opole and cited by PAP.
The new units will double the station's output capability. Tenders are currently in progress to find contractors to assemble the two units, each of which will have a power-generating capacity of 860 MW. They will meet the EU's requirements when they come into effect after 2016. The construction work is scheduled to get underway towards the end of 2010 and will take five years to complete. The newly upgraded station will provide employment for around 2,000 people.
