Underground parking garage envisaged for Opole
2010-03-04
The local authorities in Opole are planning to construct an underground parking garage in the city centre. The investment will be carried out according to public-private partnership rules, PAP reported.
The garage will lie under Kopernika Square in the vicinity of Opole University and the existing shopping centre. Depending on the variant that is eventually chosen, the garage will hold between 150 and 600 parking places and will cost between ten million and tens of millions of zloty. The authorities plan to create a city park on the land freed up as a result of the investment. Opole Town Hall intends to cover up to 30% of the cost of the undertaking from its own pocket and is seeking a private investor to contribute the remaining sum. If everything goes according to plan, the construction work may commence in the autumn of 2010 and take 1-2 years to complete, depending on the variant selected.
