PIP to inspect many construction firms

2010-03-05

The National Labour Inspectorate (PIP) is planning to conduct around 90,000 inspections this year.
Because of the high incidence of on-the-job accidents, the construction sector will have an exceptionally high percentage share of the planned inspections. PIP’s heightened vigilance is a consequence of the prevalent in the construction trade phenomena of workers engaged on sites without the necessary contracts and of employers failing to observe safety-at-work regulations. PIP will focus in particular on building sites and small construction firms, while large investments, including those linked to Poland organising Euro 2012, will be subject to on-going monitoring by the authority.
