2010-03-08
According to the "National Programme for Municipal Sewage Treatment 2009”, approximately PLN 30.1bn (€7.7bn) has been earmarked for water and sewage management investments by 2015.
Government plans provide that the above amount will finance 1,313 projects which are listed as programme’s priority investments, including the construction of 30,641 km of sewage pipes and the modernisation of an additional 2,883 km of pipes. In the plans is also the expansion or renovation of 569 sewage treatment plants and the construction of 177 such facilities from scratch. For such investments, local governments can count on EU subsidies in the amount of 50-60% of total costs. If the programme’s assumptions come to life, the sewage systems will serve nearly all residents of urban Poland and 70% of Poles residing in the countryside.
