Tender announced for construction of fragment of A1 between Swierklany and Gorzyczki

The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) announced a tender on 1 April for the construction of the Swierklany-Gorzyczki stretch of the A1 motorway. The road should be open to motorists before Euro 2012.
The 18-kilometre fragment was originally to have been built by Alpine Bau by August 2010. In December 2009, however, GDDKiA terminated the contract, accusing the contractor of progressing too slowly in the project. Despite the fact that Alpine Bau took the matter to court, GDDKiA announced a new tender to find a contractor to continue the construction work. The deadline for submitting tender applications is 19 April. A contract with the new contractor will be signed in Q3 2010, and the winning contractor will have 18 months to build the road.
