New road construction plan coming
2010-04-13
The Ministry of Infrastructure is engaged in the development of a new road construction programme for 2010-2015, according to PAP.
In the opinion of the Ministry’s senior staff, the current road construction plan is no longer valid, for example, with respect to the financial terms it contains. The tasks it encompassed were to cost approx. PLN 121bn (€31.2bn), while their true cost today stands at approx. PLN 240bn (€61.9bn). In 2009 there was also a change in the system of financing road investments and in regulations concerning this type of investments (including public procurement and environmental protection regulations), which should also be accounted for in the road construction plan.
The ministry has announced that the new programme will be compliant with requirements imposed by the European Union, thanks to which it will be easier to raise EU financing for the execution of road investments. Based on the ministry’s data, 836.5 km of roads are currently under construction or being overhauled; 15 sections of motorways are being built; 22 sections of expressways; and 15 ring roads.
