CI: supply of retail space up in 2009
2010-04-13
The past year, fewer retail space facilities were under construction in Poland. The increased supply of such space was a consequence of the commissioning for use of investments whose execution had been commenced during the upturn, according to a report released by Colliers International.
The year 2009 saw the completion of such facilities as: Bonarka City Center in Krakow, Focus Mall in Piotrkow Trybunalski and Galeria Jurajska in Czestochowa. In Poland’s eight largest agglomerations, a total of 310,000 m² of new retail space was commissioned for use. Such facilities also opened their doors to the public in smaller municipalities, such as Bielsko-Biala and Opole – such cities retail space stock grew collectively by close to 490,000 m² in 2009.
In the opinion of CI’s analysts, supply will be lower in 2010 as a consequence of builders putting many projects on hold in 2009. Currently, 20 projects are under construction with completion dates falling in 2010. Meanwhile, a couple of projects which are to be completed in 2011 are the extended Galeria Echo in Kielce and Galeria Sloneczna in Radom.
