2010-05-10
Gdansk airport is both planning and constructing a number of investments worth the combined sum of PLN 400m (€100m). The projects are to be finished prior to Euro 2012, according to
Gazeta Wyborcza.
The airport's plans include, among other things, building a new terminal, which will increase the airport's passenger handling capacity to 5 million a year. In addition, a new taxiway and two airport aprons will be built to provide room for another 15 aircraft parking bays as well as de-icing stations.
The new terminal will be designed by the architectural studio JSK Architekci. According to the architectural concept, the 39,000 m² building will consist of two parts. The first, connected with the airport apron, will contain a baggage handling area and waiting lounge, while the second will feature check-in halls, airline offices, shops and food and beverage outlets. The existing terminal will be joined to the new one via a connecting walkway, in which will be located the arrivals lounge (on the ground floor) and the departures area for passengers from outside the Schengen Zone (first floor). Furthermore, there are plans to build service roads and a technical base as well as buy safety control and passenger information equipment.
