Road engineers set to begin work on final section of Gdansk East-West road

Construction work is to commence on the final fragment of the East-West road (Trasa W-Z) in Gdansk in the next few weeks. The investment will require expenditure in the region of PLN 89m (€21.7m), according to
Gazeta Wyborcza.
The fragment will run from the intersection with Kartuska Street up to Otominska Street (behind the city bypass). The undertaking will likewise involve constructing a junction connecting the road with the bypass – work on the connecting road is already in progress and the general contractor is the company
Budimex.
The cheapest bid in the tender to build the fragment was submitted by the firm
Skanska, and since no protests were made by the other tender participants within the permitted time, the construction work may begin in the next few weeks. The tender documentation must still be verified by the Public Procurement Office (UZP). If everything goes according to plan the entire East-West road should be finished before the commencement of the Euro 2012 football tournament.
