Contract signed for Warsaw Central railway station revamp
2010-07-12
Polish State Railways (PKP) recently signed a contract with the firm
Porr Polska regarding the renovation of Warsaw Central (Warszawa Centralna) railway station. The facelift will require outlays in the region of PLN 47m (€11.5m) net. The modernisation work is due to get underway at the beginning of August, and the anticipated completion date is the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012. The investment will be financed exclusively by PKP out of its own pocket.
The refurbishing work will encompass the elevations of the main station lobby as well as the ground floor exterior passageways. In addition, there are plans to clean the entire building together with its underground sections and platforms. Furthermore, PKP wants to install a new passenger information system, new ticket machines, information points and modern
food and beverage facilities. The station will remain open to passengers throughout the overhaul.
