Construction work on capital's southern bypass set to begin in July
2010-07-12
Construction work will begin on a three-lane ring road around Warsaw in July. The regional governor of Mazovia region, Jacek Kozlowski, has just signed a construction permit for the undertaking, PAP reported. The express road will connect the A2 motorway with Warsaw Okecie Airport. The 10.5 km section of the S2 will begin after the Konotopa junction near Piastowa and end before the Lotnisko junction at the border of Dawidy and Ursynow districts.
Within the framework of the investment, valued at PLN 908m (€223m), road engineers will build a railway tunnel, ten flyovers, seven crossings and two footbridges for pedestrians.
The contractor for the work will be a consortium comprising three firms:
Bilifinger Berger Polska,
Przedsiebiorstwo Robot Mostowych Mosty-Lodz and
Przedsiebiorstwo Uslug Technicznych Intercor. The scheduled completion date for the project is August 2012, but the route will be opened to traffic as early as May, i.e. just before the commencement of Euro 2012.
