The authorities in Wielkopolskie voivodship have issued environmental approval for plans to extend the Poznan Fast Tram in the direction of the railway station, PAP announced.
The authorities want to build a tram line 2 km in length that will connect the existing line with western railway station. The undertaking represents part of the city's preparations for the Euro 2012 football championship. It will require outlays of PLN 85m (€20.8m), PLN 45m (€11m) of which will be covered by EU sources. Infrastruktura Euro 2012 Poznan, the company responsible for carrying out the investment, will lay new tram lines and replace the power system. The construction work is set to begin in the autumn of 2010 and should be finished prior to the start of the football tournament.
