New airport planned in Bagicz
2010-08-09
The Civil Aviation Authority (ULC) has given the green light for plans to develop an airport for private aircraft in Bagicz near Kolobrzeg. The airport will function as part of a planned Baltic Tourist Centre (BCT), we read in
Puls Biznesu and
Rzeczpospolita.
Bagicz airport already has a runway, aprons and taxiways. In 2009 the airport accepted private aircraft 3,000 times and thanks to the ULC's decision to register the airport its scale of operations will increase significantly. Among other things, there are plans to build an air traffic control tower and hangars.
BCT is an investment of the company
Baltis Center Polska, which intends to allocate approximately €500m to the project. Apart from the airport itself the centre will also include a large tourist centre with an aqua park and hotels, a harbour and sports facilities (including a golf course and a small olympic centre). The project as a whole will take until 2020 to finish, while the construction of the airport itself will be completed by the end of 2010.
