Decision on construction of "Zagiel" delayed
2010-08-23
The governor of Mazowieckie voivodship has put back the date for issuing a final decision on a construction permit for a skyscraper designed by Daniel Libeskind that is to stand on Warsaw's Emilii Plater Street, according to information from PAP. The investor for the "Zagiel" project is
Orco Property Group.
The permit decision has been delayed because court records on the matter have been sent incomplete to the Mazowieckie Voivodship Office. Among other things, part of the construction design and some of the analyses are missing, and as a consequence the date for issuing the construction permit has had to be postponed. The governor will have 30 days from the moment that the complete documentation is received to make a decision on this matter. The original deadline was 3 September.
Earlier, permission for the project had also been withheld because of complaints from residents in a neighbouring tenement building who complained that the new structure would block their flats' access to sunlight and thus reduce the value of their properties. They demanded PLN 7m (€1.8m) in compensation from Orco, but the developer regarded this as blackmail and has brought the matter to the public prosecutor's office.
