Tender announced for new tramway in Warsaw

Tramwaje Warszawskie intends to build a fragment of tramway between Gorczewska and Radiowa Streets in the Polish capital. The new section will create a transit line from Jelonki to Bemowo district.
The tram line will be two kilometres in length. The project will likewise involve constructing a second carriageway along Powstancow Slaskich Streets, between route S8 and Radiowa Street. In addition, a bike path will be laid together with new pavements. A tender has just been announced for the project, which will be carried out as a "design and build" investment. According to the timetable announced for the undertaking, the work will begin in the spring of 2011 and take until December next year to complete. The project will cost an estimated PLN 44m (€11m).
