Construction of power units in Opole runs into delays
2010-09-02
Polska Grupa Energetyczna is planning to build two new blocks at the Elektrownia Opole power station. However, the investment will get underway later than had been envisaged in earlier prognoses owing to protests and appeals from two of the consortia taking part in the tender to build the project. The two units will each have a power generating capacity of 800-900 MW. The cost of the undertaking is estimated at around PLN 10bn (€2.5bn).
Once the appeal procedures were finalised all four consortia interested in taking part in the tender had their applications accepted, i.e.
Polimex-Mostostal,
Mostostal Warszawa and
Rafako;
Alstom Polska and
Alstom Power Systems;
PBG with the groups
Techint Compagnia Technica Internazionale and
Ansaldo Italy;
SNC-Lavalin Polska,
SNC-Lavalin Inc. and
Hitachi Power Europe. The deadline for submitting bids is 27 September.
Originally a contract was to have been signed with the contractor at the end of Q3 or the beginning of Q4 2010 and the investment was scheduled to commence at the end of the current year. At the present time all the signs are that these dates will have to be postponed.
