Kolobrzeg beach to be reconstructed

2010-09-10

The municipal authorities of Kolobrzeg would like to secure the city's beaches against erosion. They have just executed the related contract with the contractor - a consortium with Moebius Bau Polska of Szczecin at the helm, PAP disclosed.
The authorities would like to reconstruct around 3 km of the beach. Plans provide for the construction of an underground ramp 120-150 m from the shore, designed to muffle the impact of sea waves. System of 35 spurs 110 m in length each is to be built as well, to gather sand brought in by sea currents from the nearshore zone. The beach will be augmented with around 700,000 m3 of sand from the sea bottom. The investment will cost PLN 54.6m (€13.9m), and the project will be partially financed by the EU as part of the Infrastructure and Environment Programme. The project is to be completed in March 2012.
