Cement market in Ukraine - November 2008

Ukraine is an important emerging market at the crossroad of Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia. With a population of almost 46 million, Ukraine is the second largest country in Europe. As a transit country of Russian oil and gas, with important sea ports on the Black Sea, Ukraine is strategically important both for Europe and Russia. The volume of the cement market in Ukraine has grown threefold over the last six years, demonstrating 16% average growth rate (CAGR) per year. According to the Association of Ukrainian Cement Producers local consumption amounted to 14.4 m tonnes in 2007, 16.4% more than in the previous year. Currently, local producers are the main suppliers of cement in Ukraine, supplying almost 98% of the cement sold on the market.
